Defense helps Billerica High boys soccer edge Andover

The Billerica High boys soccer team improved its record to 2-0-2 on Thursday with an exciting 1-0 victory over Andover.

The lone goal of the match came in the first half when BMHS junior Brian Jones converted a penalty kick midway through the first half.

The stubborn Indian defense took care of the rest, earning its second straight shutout after battling Haverhill to a scoreless tie on Tuesday.

Senior goalkeeper had six saves in the win over the Golden Warriors and also came through against the Hillies.

Singh is one of three BMHS captains this fall. The others are senior defenders Chris Hunt and Nic Xintaropoulos.

Billerica has 12 seniors in all, a group that also includes Tallal Ghazal, Aidan Le, Erik Villafuerte, Pedro Torres-Martinez, Jack O’Connell, Jack Walsh, Eric Helberg, Nick Magliozzi and John Aguilar.

BMHS opened the season with a victory over Dracut and a tie with Tewksbury.

Billerica plays its fourth straight home game on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. against Methuen.
