Billerica High football remains undefeated after hammering Acton-Boxborough, 34-15

A few observations after the Billerica High football team’s 34-15 win over Acton-Boxborough on Friday night in Billerica.

JT Green sure can throw the ball.

Scott Einarson transforms into King Kong when he puts football pads on.

Billerica’s defense is nasty, filthy and every other word that means really good in 2022.

BMHS improved to 6-0 with the win, adding to a streak that included a 55-7 win over Dracut and a 35-20 triumph against Tewksbury over the last two weeks.

Against Acton-Boxborough, Billerica scored three first-quarter touchdowns, doing most of its damage through the air as Green throwing for 128 yards in the first 12 minutes alone.

“We had some fun with it this week,” BMHS coach Duane Sigsbury said. “We were missing three starters in the secondary, and a lot of kids stepped up. It was a great win for us.”

BMHS led 28-7 at halftime and added a third-quarter score before the Colonials added a touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

Billerica actually took its first possession inside A-B’s 5-yard line before Einarson was stripped of the ball and fumbled.

On the next play from scrimmage, Indian sophomore Steven Gentile intercepted Colonial senior quarterback Hamad Ali at the 5-yard line and walked into the end zone for a 6-0 BMHS lead with 6:43 to go in the quarter.

Nasty.

Filthy.

Less than two minutes later, after a Colonial punt, Einarson quickly atoned for the fumble, taking a short pass from Green and rumbling 65 yards to the end zone. Einarson once again showed an incredible burst of speed, separating from several would-be A-B tacklers around midfield and sprinting into the end zone.

Green’s 2-point conversion toss to junior Gus O’Gara made it 14-0.

Einarson continues to be a focal point of the BMHS air attack. On Friday, the 6-foot-3 receiver caught nine passes for 168 yards.

King Kong.

“He’s a great player,” added Sigsbury. “Last week Tewksbury double-covered him all game and this week we did some formations that we liked to get him in more one-on-one situations and he did an awesome job. Scotty can most certainly run after the catch. Great athletes make you look like you’re a good coach.”

Green finished with 318 yards passing for the Indians, connecting with five different receivers.

“He’s a great quarterback, one of the best Billerica has ever had,” Sigsbury said. “He’s a real tough, hard-nosed kid.”

O’Gara added six catches for 91 yards.

Billerica drove 66 yards for its next touchdown and used a successful fake punt to start the possession. On fourth-and-two from their own 44-yard line, the Indians had punter Mike Murnane pass to Einarson for a 22-yard gain.

Five plays later, sophomore Djoodny Dorival scored on a 3-yard run, making it 20-0 with 36 seconds left in the opening quarter.

A nice punt return by sophomore Matt Gray set up the next Indian touchdown, a drive that featured a fourth-and-10 completion from Green to Murnane for 15 yards. Moments later, BMHS scored on another fourth-down play when Green ran into the end zone from 9 yards out.

A conversion-throw to O’Gara pushed the lead to 28-0.

Just before halftime, Acton-Boxborough scored when Ali hit senior Tyler Clayton with a 19-yard touchdown pass. Junior Lyle Ssengonzi’s extra point made it 28-7 at intermission.

In the third quarter, O’Gara added to his big night with a 68-yard touchdown reception that made it 34-7.

BMHS had a big night defensively throughout the game.

Senior Kyle Breitwieser had one solid play in the second quarter, saving a touchdown on an A-B kickoff return, tackling junior Aiden Mahoney at the Indian 27-yard line. The Colonials managed to score two plays later, but Breitwieser’s hustle play certainly drew some cheers from the BMHS sideline.

Billerica (6-0) returns to the field for a big game in North Andover next Friday at 6 p.m.
