Burlington girls hockey nets 10th win

About a month ago, the Burlington High girl’s hockey team lost to Stoneham/Wilmington in overtime, spiraling to their third straight loss.

Since then, the Lady Devils have gone 5-1-2 including last night’s 3-0 revenge win over Stoneham/Wilmington, a game the Lady Devils won in all three zones.

And while you can’t question that the team’s offense this season has been led by the first line of sophomores Cailtyn Tremblay and Lexi MacKinnon, centered by junior captain Shea McDonald, it was the team’s second line that led the way last night.

The second line is centered by Anna Viglione, who is the prototypical center who plays the whole ice. Emma Steiner rides left wing, with Abby Wojtasek and Katherine Geswell alternating on the right side.

Burlington got on the board when Steiner banged home a rebound at the crease giving the Lady Devils a 1-0 lead just 3:10 into the game.

The Devils doubled the lead late in the period when Wojtaszek finished off a rebound of a Geswell bid.

Burlington dominated the middle period outshooting the opposition by a 16-5 count and finally broke through late in the stanza when Tremblay walked off the back boards and stuffed one home to make it 3-0.

All the while, the defense kept Stoneham/Wilmington at bay led by senior captains Abby Sousa and Lizzie Boulos, along with junior Katie Hayes and sophomore Mia Lauder.

When the opposition broke through, freshman goalie Isa Fischer made all the stops earning the shutout.

Burlington (10-4-2) travels to Rivers School on Monday to take on Wayland/Weston
